In the Third Edition of The Landscape Lighting Handbook (Wiley), Janet Lennox Moyer recommends the following: De-Solv-it Degreaser or De-Solv-it Contractors Solvent. This is a citrus based organic cleaner from Orange-Sol (800-877-7771). These are available at big box or hardware stores.
